SENIOR FIREFIGHTER 
WALTER HARRIS  ENGINE CO. 23                                         The Detroit Fire Department suffered a tragic loss this morning (11-15-08). SFF Walter Harris was killed when the roof of a dwelling collapsed on him and another firefighter. Walter was a member of the class of March 1991. Almost having 18 years of service Walt was the best of the best. Not only did we lose a fellow Firefighter today, We lost a Brother, Friend, and Role Model for ALL young Firemen. L O D D      03/14/2008   Raymond Barrett,     Ex-Chief    1945-2008 : Due to the sensitive nature of the photos on the following pages; and with sincere consideration and  respect for the family of                                   Raymond Barrett, 62, of West Milford,who died  Sunday, March 9, 2008 while volunteering with the Apshawa Fire Company #1, fighting a house fire in West Milford,New Jersey   

 Raymond Barrett was operating a hose-line inside the structure when he collapsed, he was removed from the burning building by fellow firefighters. CPR was  immediately administered on Barrett at the scene, and while en route to the hospital.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           He served in the Army and was stationed in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 in the 2nd Batallion 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One). He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge and other State and County Medals. He was also a member of the Walkill Valley Vietnam Veterans of America.

Raymond was a volunteer for 31 years  and former Chief of the Apshawa Volunteer Fire Company #1.                       
     A funeral service was held 10 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2008 at the Echo Lake Baptist Church, in  West Milford. Raymond Barrett will be buried  at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown.

CITY OF EIZABETH, NEW JERSEY, FIREFIGHTER GARY STEPHENS : JANUARY 2,2009 LINE OF DUTY DEATH OF ELIZABETH,NJ FIREFIGHTER GARY STEPHENS WHILE OPERATING AT BOX 2215 LOCATED AT 335 MARSHALL STREET. HE PASSED AWAY DUE TO INJURIES SUSTAINED WHILE OPERATING AT THE FIRE  .....It is with deepest regrets that we inform you of the line of duty death of FF Gary V. Stephens:

  Fire Fighter Gary V. Stephens a 28 year veteran with the Elizabeth, New Jersey Fire Department was tragically killed on January 2, 2009 will operating at a fire on Marshall Street.

  Gary was the Vice President of IAFF Local 777.

  There will be a memorial service at St. John's Episcopalian Church on Broad Street in Elizabeth at 11 AM on Monday 1/5/09.
